Materials:
- Mirror Cube – We created a DIY one from mirrors found here. (Read why I DIYed this option here.) You can also buy a corner mirror or bendable mirror for something premade and sturdier. We use these mirrors for nearly every subtheme so I highly recommend grabbing one of these options.
- Q-tips, some whole and some cut in half or threes
How To
Create some Reggio-Emilia inspired Create snowflakes using the mirror cube. Look at books or printouts of snowflakes or create your own. Use the center point of the mirror as the center of the snowflake, with each dendrite and branch extending out. Explore what happens to the snowflake as you move the mirror inwards or extend it to create a symmetrical snowflake.
Learning Across Ages
Toddler & Preschool: Explore how movement across the mirror cube is reflected and multiplied. Talk about snowflakes and incorporate additional learning resources like books.
Elementary: Use full length and cut in half qtips to create your own snowflake designs on the mirror cube. Practice creating from the center point of the cube to discuss symmetry.
