For playdough honeycombs, create hexagons with hot glue on a toilet paper roll. For reinforcement when pushing, slide the tube over a wooden block or whatever you can find that fits. You can also use bubble wrap for a smaller honeycomb pattern. Watch the rolling pin push the shape into the playdough. Discuss the hexagon shape. Bring out an empty honey jar to see how much playdough honey fits. Show them real honeycombs or taste honey and describe the process of making honey.
Create a wasps nest by rolling Amazon packing paper into a swirl and hot gluing. Add wire and packing peanut bumblebees with pipe cleaner wings. Discuss nests versus hive and different types of pollinators.
Create a hive with toilet paper rolls. Paint them a yellow orange and put the same colored paper behind them. Move your honeybees in and out to make honey.
Read Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree & honeybee books, sing “I’m Bringing Home My Baby Bumblebee”, or dress as bees with wings from the dollar store.
